Meet our Principal
Hello,
My name is Brad Barton and I am the new principal at E.C. Best Elementary School.
I have worked for Churchill County School District since 2004, where I began my career teaching English as a Second Language at CCHS. Since 2017, I have been the Dean of Students and Vice-Principal at CCMS.
I was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. My dad worked for the Army, so growing up, I moved quite a bit. I graduated high school in Munich, Germany, and then went to the University of Utah, where I earned my degree in Sociology/Criminology with a minor in Spanish. While in college, I met a beautiful girl from Fallon, Nevada, and asked her to marry me. I started doing social work in Utah for a while, but then decided I just wanted to coach sports and teach in a classroom. So, I returned to school and earned my Master's Degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix. In 2004, I brought my wife and family back to Fallon, Nevada, where I started my dream job at Churchill County High School as an ESL Specialist and head varsity baseball coach.
When I first went into education, I had no intention of becoming an administrator. After 16 years of being in the classroom and observing how schools and districts operated, I returned to school and earned a second Master's degree in Administration and Leadership. I wanted to put myself in a position to make effective changes in education. Eventually, I landed a job as Dean of Students at CCMS. It was a steep learning curve, but thanks to great examples from mentors, I was able to develop the skills to become an effective administrator.
After 16 years in the classroom at CCHS, 6 years as an administrator at CCMS, and the confidence and encouragement given to me by his friends and coworkers, I am thrilled to accept the responsibility of leading E.C. Best Elementary School. I’m eager to work with E.C. Best staff and with this specific population of students. What an exciting age of curiosity and independence. I look forward to quickly getting to know all the members of the E.C. Best team, and cannot wait to develop lifelong friendships and relationships with all my students and their families.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing and spectating sports, being outdoors, playing with my grandson, watching a good movie, and enjoying everything Fallon offers. Since moving here, I've been learning, growing, coaching, and raising my family in this great community. I love Fallon, and I love Churchill County School District. Coming to work here was the best decision I ever made for me and my family.
I look forward to an incredible year!
Brad Barton
