Safe School Professionals
Hello families! We are the Safe School Professionals (SSPs) for the school district. The role of the SSP was created in response to the high level of bullying and mental health concerns across the state. SSPs are composed of mental health professionals which may include Social Workers and Community Health Workers. This mental health background allows SSPs to reach students/staff/parents on a variety of different levels all with the common goal of promoting general well-being within the student. Specific services for students include assisting students in understanding and accepting self and others, developing intervention strategies to increase academic success, helping students develop appropriate social interaction skills, providing crisis intervention, and leading social and emotional learning groups such as conflict resolution and anger management. SSP’s provide services for parents/guardians/families by aiming to alleviate family stress which enables their child to function more effectively in school and the community. SSPs assist parents in navigating school and community resources, provide parents’ access to programs available to children with special needs, and work with parents to facilitate their support in their child’s adjustment to school. Please feel free to reach out if needed.
